Mentorship & Service
Some of the work I care about most doesn’t show up in a publication list. Mentoring students, reading admissions files, and helping people get excited about AI and math are the parts of this job where I feel most useful. Here’s a look at where I’ve spent that time.
Mentorship & Supervision
Master’s Thesis Co-Supervisor
Eindhoven University of Technology · 2019–2020
I co-supervised a master’s thesis (student: Linde Hesse) on domain transfer for whole-breast segmentation in MRI, guiding the development of intensity augmentation techniques to improve model generalizability across imaging protocols.
Undergraduate Honors Project Advisor
Fanshawe College · 2017
I co-supervised an honors project (student: Clarence MacDonald) applying convolutional neural networks to automate bacterial colony counting, supporting the student’s development in deep learning and image analysis.
Graduate Student Mentor
University of Toronto, Department of Medical Biophysics · 2018–2019
I provided one-on-one mentoring to graduate students on research design, academic progression, and career planning, and served as a supervisor for GLSE graduate rotations.
Academic Service
Admissions Committee Member (Master’s Thesis Program)
Harvard Medical School, Department of Biomedical Informatics · 2024–Present
Application file review and candidate ranking for the thesis track.
Admissions Interview Chaperone
University of Toronto, Department of Medical Biophysics · 2018
Supported logistics and the candidate experience during graduate program admissions.
AI & NLP Consultant — Medventions Atlantic
Sunnybrook Research Institute · 2023
Advised on integrating AI and natural language processing into biomedical innovation projects led by clinician-entrepreneurs.
